Bardiya, May 5

The activists of Maoist aligned Tharu National Liberation Front (TNLF) and Young Communist League (YCL) vandalised and torched two government offices in Bardiya on Saturday.
The Maoist activists vandalised the branch office of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and District Land Revenue Office situated at Gulariya at around 1 pm, the SP of District Police Office in Bardiya Shyam Bahadur Khadka said.
A transformer, a jeep (Ba 1 Na 68), two bicycles, computer set, some furnitures and documents of NEA branch office were destroyed in the arson, Khadka said, adding, details of the losses incurred haven’t been received yet.
The police rained batons on the demonstrators and resorted to firing in the air to bring the situation under control. Police also teargassed the demonstrators. The demonstrators include freed kamaiyas and squatters. Gulariya and Sanoshree area remained tensed throughout the day. The indefinite curfew in Sanoshree area was relaxed for six hours and was clamped again at 11 am, the District Administration Office in Bardiya said.
TNLF has called for a two-day bandh in five districts of mid and far west on Friday and Saturday protesting the use of the building of Cotton Development Committee (CDC) by Armed Police Force personnel. Protesters led by the Maoists are accusing the APF of trying to displace freed kamaiyas and squatters living in Sanoshree and Taratal areas.
Vehicular movement on the highway was completely halted while normal life was crippled in Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, Kanchanpur and Dang districts.
